Black Swan
Natalie Portman, Vicent Cassell, Mila Kunis
This movie is about an exceptional ballerina who wants to do both the white and black swan in the production of Swan Lake. The director tells her that she does the white swan perfectly but not the black swan. Nina(Natalie) has a competition with Lily(Mila) because Lily does the black swan correctly and both have some sort of tension of who gets the piece. Nina wins the part as the white swan and black swan and in the plot she tries to find different ways to be able to do the black swan. The problem that Nina has is that she wants to do both parts “perfectly” which causes her physiological problems.
Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Aniston
Bruce Nolan (Jim) is a reporter of eyewitness news and is unsuccessful at getting a job as an anchorman. When trying to get promoted to a vacant anchor position, he loses his temper with Evan Baxter (Steve) and is fired. There he starts complaining about God until he gets a message to go to a place and casually meets with God. God (Morgan) gives Bruce his powers with two rules, not to tell anybody he is God and not to mess with free will. It is up to Bruce to make that a possibility.
This movie gives a different perspective of religion in everyday society and how to incorporate in a nice way with comedy. It is entertaining, inspiring, open’s one’s mind about society, shows not to complain, etc.
The Lion King
It starts by Rafiki presenting Simba, the new born son of the King and the Queen, Mufasa and Sarabi. The character who was against his birth is Scar, Mufasa’s young brother. The movie talks about the life of Simba using the circle of life to become “The Lion King”. For instance, the death of his father, facing Scar in a deul, and the teachings of Rafiki. On his way Simba makes some new friends, Timon and Pumba, to help him.
The movie impacted me because it showcased animals in a very lovable and kind way. Very diverse themes, involving African culture in the movie which I like and the mistic elements involved in the movie. The movie showcases a very strong moral, the circle of life, pride, justice, love, compassion, integrity, and respect.
The Da Vinci Code
This movie is about an investigator of symbols decoding the symbolism of the Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. Leigh Teabing ( Ian Mckellan) decodes the Last Supper and says the person next to Jesus is Mary Magdalene and both had a child. This is an adventure of finding the Holy Grail. It is involved with the Illuminati.
The movie is a complete intense adventure, decoding many secrets with tremendous symbolism. It has action, love, religion, subjectivity of history, intelligence of women, etc.
Van Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock
This is the story of Moses, being referenced from the book of Exodus in the bible, in his trajectory from a child being discovered in the Nile by Queen Tuya to becoming the savior of the Israelites taking them away from all the abuse in Egypt. Moses learns the life of a high royal Egyptian with his step brother Ramses. One day Moses runs away by killing someone who was abusing an Israelite and escaped. He later finds a Hebrew camp and learns there culture and his roots. He then goes back to Egypt to free the Israelites.
Themes I liked include love, passion, confusion, protection, contradiction, faith, and freedom. This movie made an impact on me because it was a good representation of the book of Exodus and it had a very calm and a spiritual feeling to the drama.
